FRANK FELLOWS
Monthly Review
Our main outreach and skill building programs is a weekly pop-up class that held in in the Frank Innovation Zone. The classes teach students how to use tools such as the laser cutter, and 3D printer, and also teaches skills such as soldering, and CAD design. The students who participate build a project that they get to take home. They are currently working on a solar powered USB stick, and in the coming weeks they will be working on designing and creating a long board. Students of all majors, and all ages are invited. We have particularly seen a large number of freshmen coming to the classes.
Last week our cohort finished interviewing and selecting the next cohort of Harold Frank Students. We are looking forward to next year, and think that the class will be a good one! We are planning events with the younger class to help them know what to expect, and to get to know us. There are some highly motivated students who are already looking forward to getting involved with projects and participate in the upcoming business plan competition.

Hello, my name is Alyssa Norris and I am a civil/environmental engineering student with minors in math, ethics, and East Asian Studies. I am a member of the 2016-2017 Harold Frank Cohort and this fall I was appointed as the Harold Frank Institute’s student president. I am excited about this year and am glad that it is off to a great start! I am so lucky to be a part of a group that is talented, engaged, excited to learn and contribute. MESSAGE FROM OUR
DIRECTOR
It's hard to believe but the year is racing by. I was up at Lookout Pass for the ski patrol refresher this past weekend and the Tamaraks were a beautiful yellow with fall color. It has been a very productive fall and our senior Frank Students have been very active. With their help we had the biggest pool of applicants for the next cohort. We have an excellent cohort of Juniors selected and will tell you more about them in the next issue. The senior cohort also have at least three initiatives in play:

A speakers event modeled after a TedX This newsletter to be published once a month Popup classes to teach specific skills of interest to the students. To date these have been centered on the Frank Innovation Zone equipment. These are hands-on learning events. Tonight we are building a solar phone charger and they will be learning some soldering skills in the process.

I have strongly encouraged the students to reach out to alumni, take initiative and they have been super responsive. As the director, I am very proud of them all.

SUMMER
2016
AMAZING SUMMER
The trip to Silicon Valley this past summer was an incredible experience! The highlights range from networking with industry professionals, touring start-up companies and incubators, and visiting downtown San Francisco. Overall, it was amazing to see the innovation happening in the valley and the potential job market for college graduates.
FRESH START
Back at Washington State University we are working hard on our new start-up companies. Our senior entrepreneurship capstone course is combined with the Boeing Scholarship Program as well as the Bioengineering capstone. We are in the phase of collaborating with students of all disciplines and starting our start-up businesses.
NEW FELLOWS
Recruitment is in full swing! We have conducted interviews with juniors majoring in engineering, business, and communications. We are thoroughly impressed with the high level of intelligence and ingenuity of our applicants. The Frank Fellows Programs is ready for a good year!
This year the Harold Frank Engineering Entrepreneurship Institute is increasing communication and interaction between current Harold Frank students, and alumni. We are facilitating meetups, guest speakers, and a mentor program. We are looking for Harold Frank alumni to get involved.
